The Power of Purpose

We know that purpose is a powerful thing.  In fact there are many books written on the importance of purpose in our lives.  But I think sometimes we forget that purpose doesn’t have to be a life-altering, world-shaking undertaking to matter. Purpose can be simple and still be meaningful.

Consider the rowboat.  It sits at the dock ready to serve.  It takes you out on the lake and brings you safely back when you are ready to return. You have confidence in the boat because you know that it floats, keeps you dry and gets you where you choose to go.

Its purpose is uncomplicated and reliable, and exactly what you needed in that moment.

Maybe our purpose can sometimes be as simple as the rowboat; to provide people what they need, when they need it, without fuss or drama.

If the people in your life can count on you because they know you will always get them safely back to shore, that is making a difference.  In fact there is often no more important purpose than keeping your friends afloat in a sometimes-turbulent world.
